mChat Not Accessing Database

Postby Shadow3d » 24 Feb 2012, 20:46

Hello,

I have tried multiple times to install mChat, have successfully ran through the external installer, but I keep getting the following error. Is there any way I can fix this problem manually if there is no way to do this automatically. The only other change I have made to my phpBB installation is a change of the common.php file to common-orig.php and adding another common.php but this plugin does not seem to be using that file.

The error is as follows:
Code: Select all
Please login or register to view the code within this post

Thank you for your help and time.

Have you tried to install mChat on a localhost and plain vanilla board?

If it installs there, it's an error in one of your files on the live site.

I think I know what is wrong but don't want to commit my self as I may give the wrong answer.

You ran the mchat_install.php file and you have the edits to your includes/constants.php file?

I have installed phpBB with mChat multiple times and this is the only time I am experiencing this problem.
Perhaps it is an issue with the Wordpress plugin called phpbb single sign on.
Please elaborate, I can always try it :)

I ran the installer in Automod with no errors and then ran the external installer as well.
After doing so, I got the aforementioned error so I uninstalled and tried again to no avail.
I just double-checked the constants file and all of the required edits are present.

If you have a backup, upload the backup and start again but only run the installer once. If I recall though, Rich is pretty good at this and the installer will not install twice. It only uninstalls the 2nd time around.

Sure hope you backed up the DB and files so you can start clean.

Unfortunately, I cannot start clean because I have a pretty large Wordpress site tied to this forum on the same DB. If it gets impossible to solve, I guess I would have to manually reverse the edits of the mod. However, I really like this mod and it would be great to get it working somehow. This error is not allowing me to access any part of the forum right now.

Probably has something to do with your change to common.php.

Well here's the fail of the day lol...

I just went into the mySQL database and it turns out that the tables created by the mod do not exist.
Since I cannot run that installer again (the error being received is board-wide), can you please give me a file that I can import into the database to create the required information in the database?

Thanks again.

Why can't you run the installer again? That is the only way to get the tables and permissions built and removed.

If it were me I would uninstall the mod via Automod (or however) then reinstall it and make sure I click on the little green box that has the link to the installer in it.

Sounds to me as though only half of the mod install instructions were done.

I can't access any part of the board right now though, due to the SQL error.
This also includes the installer, which I did run before. Is there any way I can run that file without receiving the error? I guess this means that I have to manually remove the mod.... *sigh*

Just try to remove the edits to the php files (except for includes/constants.php) and try to run the installer again.

Thankfully there aren't a lot of files to edit.

Yup, that's what I'm planning on doing (I was gonna start but the server itself died).
I'll post back here after I have done so.

I think there is something wrong with common.php, I tried re-installing the mod, everything runs smoothly, except the mchat_install.php which gives the same error again.

EDIT: This helps - viewtopic.php?f=61&t=1215
But I still get the error for some reason....

Sorry for multiposting, but I think the error is that no mod installation is able to write to the database O_O

Are there no direct SQL commands that I can enter to that part of the installation manually?

No there are no direct SQL commands. All of the SQL entries are done via the mchat_install file.
